Facebook to Launch Video Chat Next Week

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that his company will be launching a new product next week. But he didn’t expand as to what the product will be. The new product was made by Facebook’s Seattle team. It has been speculated that it could have a desktop component because of all the desktop software hiring by its Seattle office.

According to an unnamed source, the product that Facebook will be launching on July 6 will be a video chat app powered by Skype. It will work via any web browser. The product is based on Skype and will have a desktop component.

It’s still unclear whether Skype should already be installed on the computer or if additional software is needed even if the user already has Skype. What is known is that the new product’s interface will be through the user’s web browser.

Facebook and Skype have been working on various projects. This includes the integration of several Facebook features within Skype. But this new product will increase the quantity of Skype users. The social network has more than 750 million active users. At present Skype has around 170 million. This will help Facebook keep users because it gives them the option of voice and video chat.
